What is the UltraClear Laser?
The UltraClear laser is an innovative ablative fractional laser that is FDA-cleared for skin rejuvenation. Dr. Friedman was the first physician in the world to demonstrate this technology at the 2023 American Society for Laser Medicine & Surgery 42nd Annual Conference in Phoenix, AZ. This exciting laser-coring advance will allow Dr. Friedman and fellow dermatologists to significantly improve scars, deep wrinkles, and other skin issues with minimal downtime or patient discomfort. By combining laser rejuvenation with fractional tissue coring, the UltraClear laser can now offer customized anti-aging and remarkable aesthetic results.
The UltraClear MID IR 2910 nm Fiber Laser’s unique feature is its ability to emit energy at the peak water absorption wavelength, creating small ablation channels with minimal thermal dispersion, thereby minimizing damage to surrounding tissues. This laser offers a wide array of modes for highly customizable treatments, ranging from superficial to deep ablation, and even fully ablative treatments for various skin conditions such as fine lines, scars, and nasal contouring. Its laser-enabled tissue coring mode is particularly noteworthy for its ability to remove tissue at different depths and densities while providing controlled coagulation, making it an excellent choice for tissue tightening in areas like the jawline and neck.
In terms of patient experience and recovery, the UltraClear laser allows for precise and uniform tissue removal with less discomfort and downtime when compared to traditional methods. The thermal relaxation time between pulses enhances patient comfort and expedites healing. In our clinic, we have been able to perform treatments with only topical anesthesia and optional nitrous oxide obviating the need for more advanced analgesia measures as compared to traditional ablative fractional resurfacing technologies or mechanical tissue coring devices. For practitioners interested in integrating such advanced technology into their practice, Dr. Friedman recommends engaging in continuous learning through conferences and journals, assessing the practice’s needs and patient profile, and carefully evaluating the device’s specifications, training, and support offered by the manufacturer.
