Restylane® is a cosmetic dermal filler that is derived from hyaluronic acid, a compound naturally found in the body, including the skin. Restylane offers a family of advanced dermal fillers that are used to restore volume and fullness to the skin, and can be used to correct moderate facial wrinkles and folds, including nasolabial folds, marionette lines, and for lip augmentation.There is a low risk of any side effects other than redness and swelling at the injection site that typically resolves within two to three days.
Restylane® for Facial Rejuvenation And The Treatment of Wrinkles In Houston
Restylane® was the first hyaluronic acid filler to receive FDA approval. It is FDA-approved for the treatment of nasolabial folds – the parentheses lines that appear between the nose and the mouth as a result of aging. In addition, it can be used to treat mild to moderate facial wrinkles or folds that result from facial volume loss, including hollows under the eyes. Restylane® products are different from BOTOX® Cosmetic and other neuromodulators – not a replacement treatment, but a complementary one. Whereas BOTOX® Cosmetic treats wrinkles by relaxing muscles responsible for contraction wrinkles, Restylane® corrects wrinkles by filling voids under the skin.
Lasting, Effective Treatment
Restylane® dermal fillers have been shown to be an effective treatment for facial wrinkles. Results may last six months to a year, depending on the site treated, lifestyle, and skin characteristics. Restylane’s long-lasting effects are due to the nature of it’s hyaluronic acid, which is hydrophilic. Although hyaluronic acid is a natural compound that is readily absorbed by the body, it also binds water to itself, replacing the volume lost as the hyaluronic acid is absorbed over time. Each hyaluronic acid molecule is able to retain six times its own volume by this method.
The injection procedure itself is short and simple. Using an ultra-fine needle, your Restylane® product will be delicately injected into the areas targeted for treatment. Injections are performed in our office following application of a topical anesthetic, and can be completed in fifteen to thirty minutes. Restylane products contain a local anesthetic in each syringe to enhance your comfort during the treatment.
You can go back to work immediately following your treatment, although you may begin to experience some swelling, redness, and bruising later that day and the swelling may continue for two to three days. Ice and cold packs can help to diminish the swelling and bruising.
The initial effects of Restylane® products are typically apparent right after treatment, and should gradually become more visible over the next several days. Some degree of redness and swelling are to be expected following the procedure, but these effects should fade within a short period of time. Most patients are able to resume normal daily activities immediately following treatment.

The Restylane® Procedure
Similar to other dermal fillers, such as JUVÉDERM®, Restylane® treatments are typically quick, and we strive to enhance your experience by minimizing any discomfort. Our physicians will discuss your areas of concern and cosmetic goals, and then develop a customized treatment plan designed to achieve your desired outcome. Your Restylane® product will be administered through an ultrafine needle for increased precision and comfort, and you should begin to see some results immediately, with additional improvement occurring over the next 14 days. Side effects and downtime are usually minimal, though you should expect some redness and mild swelling in the treated area, which should fade within a few hours. You should be able to return to normal activities immediately following the procedure.
