Laser Tattoo Removal with Q-Switched ND:YAG Technology
With advanced laser technology available here at the Dermatology & Laser Surgery Center, our experienced dermatologists can effectively reduce the appearance of tattoos and make them significantly less visible on your skin.
Previous techniques for tattoo removal, including dermabrasion, salabrasion and CO2 lasers removed the tattoo, but left scars. However, the Q-switched ND:YAG laser is able to more selectively target the tattoo ink than previous lasers. The light from the laser targets the ink, breaking it up and allowing the body to remove it via natural processes, with the goal of leaving the skin as unblemished as possible.
How does the Q-Switched ND:YAG work?
Using laser energy guided over the area of the tattoo, Q-Switched ND:YAG technology breaks the dye and pigments down into small particles, which are then filtered out of the skin naturally. This laser treatment can be effective on a range of ink colors and skin tones. Multiple treatments may be necessary to achieve the desired result.
While the skin in the treated area may be affected by some temporary redness and swelling after the procedure, any discomfort can be controlled with medication.
Q-Switched ND:YAG laser treatment can also be used to reduce signs of age spots and sun damage for a smoother, more even-toned appearance to the skin.
