Laser Treatment for Skin of Color
We offer a wide range of laser treatments that are safe on all skin types. When it comes to skin of color, our board certified physicians will recommend the proper treatment to help a patient achieve their desired results with a decreased risk of hyperpigmentation and other side effects.
Preparing for Laser Treatment
The first step in preparing for your laser treatment is to attend a private consultation with one of our providers. During this appointment, you will have the opportunity to discuss the challenges and goals that have led you to seek laser treatment. Your provider will educate you about which laser or lasers can help you achieve those goals, and together you will decide on our unique treatment plan.
Please note:
We cannot perform laser treatments on tanned skin, as this can diminish results and may cause hyperpigmentation. Please use sun protection of SPF 35 or higher for at least three to four weeks prior to your treatment. We will be happy to recommend great sunscreens.
What to Expect During Laser Treatment
The treatment experience is different for each type of laser, as is the duration of treatment. Generally speaking, you will recline in a comfortable treatment chair. Your skin may be numbed with anesthetic cream prior to the treatment to ensure your comfort, and you may be asked to wear special glasses to protect your eyes. A laser device will be guided over the treatment areas. You may feel a sensation of heat or mild stinging, but we do our best to make sure treatment is not painful. We offer laughing gas for certain procedures if requested – please speak with your provider to see if laughing gas is an option for you.
Recovery After Laser Treatment
Recovery after laser treatment varies according to the laser used and the treatment area, as does the duration of recovery. You may experience redness and the sensation of a sunburn. With certain lasers, your skin will peel, or small scabs might form. When you come in for your laser treatment, your provider will provide you with expectations and detailed instructions for the recovery process.
Frequently Asked Questions About Laser Treatments
How many laser treatments will I need?
Several laser treatments may be required for our patients to achieve optimal results. During your consultation, we will let you know how many treatments are expected for your unique goals and the technology we’ll use to help you achieve them.
Can I combine laser treatments with other treatments?
Absolutely. Many of our patients choose to amplify the results of their laser treatment by combining it with BOTOX, injectable fillers, microneedling, or other treatments and often these can all be done on the same day,
When is the best time to get laser treatment?
There are a few factors that can affect when you seek laser treatment. We can help you decide on the best time for your specific treatment, but here are some general guidelines:
Do not seek laser treatment if you have a tan. Use excellent sun care for three to four weeks before your treatment.
Consider the healing and recovery time for your treatment. Also inquire when optimal results will show. You will not want to get a laser treatment right before an important event if your skin hasn’t recovered!
Is laser treatment painful?
Before your laser treatment, your skin will be numbed with an anesthetic to ensure your comfort. Depending on the laser used, you might experience a sensation of warmth, some stinging, or the feeling of a rubber band being snapped against your skin. We will fully inform you about what you can expect during your treatment, and we do everything we can to make treatment as comfortable as possible. We also offer laughing gas during certain procedures – please ask your provider if this is an option for you.
How much does laser treatment cost?
The cost of your treatment will depend on the laser used, the treatment area, and the number of treatments required. We’ll give you a comprehensive cost breakdown for your unique treatment plan during your consultation with us.
