Dr. Paul M. Friedman Explains How to Reduce Blackheads in “Today” Article
Most people have experienced what’s known as “blackheads,” a frustrating type of acne that typically looks like a small, dark ink spot on the skin. Fortunately, there are ways to effectively—and safely—remove blackheads. Our dermatologist, Paul M. Friedman, MD, was recently interviewed for an article on NBC’s Today show website to talk about how you can diminish blackheads without making the situation worse. It’s not recommended to try to “pop” a blackhead yourself. In many cases, a chemical peel, microdermabrasion, or other skin care treatment can address blackheads and reduce the development of acne. Plus, Dr. Friedman says salicylic acid and topical retinoids can often be helpful to keep debris, sebum, and oils out of pores, thus diminishing the potential that blackheads will appear.
