Dr. Paul Friedman Receives Prestigious AAD Presidential Citation for Leadership and Advocacy
We are delighted to announce that Dr. Paul Friedman has been honored with the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) Presidential Citation. This prestigious recognition highlights Dr. Friedman’s exceptional leadership and commitment to serving on the AAD Ad Hoc Task Force on Dermatologic Resources for the Intervention and Prevention of Human Trafficking.
A Vital Role in Advocacy and Care
Dermatologists have a unique and critical role in supporting individuals who have experienced human trafficking. Dermatologistss expertise and dedication are instrumental in recognizing and diagnosing signs of trafficking-related trauma on the skin. Dr. Friedman’s contributions in this field have been pivotal in enhancing care and recovery for survivors of sex-trafficking.
In a recent Instagram post, Dr. Friedman expressed his deep gratitude towards AAD Presidents Dr. Mark Kaufmann and Dr. Terry Cronin, as well as AAD Task Force Chair Dr. Shadi Kourosh, for their unwavering commitment to advocating for trafficked individuals. He is especially thrilled about the AAD’s partnership with the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery’s (ASLMS) New Beginnings Branding Tattoo Removal program, a philanthropic campaign Dr. Friedman spearheaded. This initiative now includes 103 physicians across the nation, including two in Canada. This program offers pro bono branding tattoo removal services to survivors, helping them reclaim ownership of their bodies and move forward with their lives.
Encouraging Medical Community Involvement
Dr. Friedman’s passion for advocacy extends beyond his own practice. He invites his medical colleagues to join the volunteer effort as New Beginnings physician providers or to visit the American Academy of Dermatology’s website to learn more about how they can get involved. The collective effort of the medical community is crucial in expanding the reach and impact of these services, providing much-needed support to survivors of trafficking.
Looking Ahead: Expanding Services and Partnerships
This recognition is just the beginning of the impactful services Dr. Friedman and his colleagues at the AAD aim to offer those affected by human trafficking. The future promises exciting developments as they work to broaden partnerships with nationwide rescue organizations. Additionally, they are eager to forge a global coalition with other dermatologic societies, further amplifying their efforts and resources.
Dr. Friedman’s commitment to this cause is a testament to the profound difference that compassionate, dedicated professionals can make in the lives of those who have endured unimaginable hardships.
